Multidisciplinary Approach to Urologic Cancer Treatment
The Urologists at the University of Colorado School of Medicine recognize the importance of an integrated team approach with fellowship trained physicians performing the most difficult reconstructive surgeries on patients with difficult cancers.
Dr. Shandra Wilson is a fellowship-trained urologist involved in the Southwestern Oncology Group. She is a busy surgeon focusing on surgery, treatments and research in bladder and testicular cancer. Dr. Wilson is also extremely qualified in the areas of prostate, bladder, and kidney cancer and performs laparoscopic ("minimally invasive") as well as open procedures. She trained with Dr. Catalona in medical school, completed her residency at the University of Southern California with Dr. Don Skinner, and completed her fellowship in Colorado at the University of Colorado.

Dr. E. David Crawford has been a leader in the field of Urologic Oncology for over 20 years and brings international cancer studies and experience to the University of Colorado. Dr. Crawford has an exceptional reputation as a physician-leader as the head of the Southwest Oncology Group and devotes a significant amount of time to his surgical practice in addition to teaching, lecturing, and research. Dr. Crawford brings expertise in all fields of urologic oncology and particularly focuses on prostate cancer and new treatment options for prostate cancer such as cryotherapy (or freezing the prostate), brachytherapy (radioactive seed placement) and surgical removal of the prostate using a "mini-incision."
Dr. Fernando Kim completes the oncologic experience at the University of Colorado with his expertise in minimally invasive surgery. Dr. Kim trained at Loyola University and then completed a prestigious fellowship at The Brady Institute of Urological Institute at The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Dr. Kim has an international reputation and dedicates himself to all areas of his profession including surgery, teaching, and research. Dr. Kim’s specific area of interest is in renal carcinoma and he has initiated a clinic specifically devoted to patients suffering from this malignancy. Dr. Kim also is on the Board of Directors at Denver Health Medical Center.
Dr. Paul Maroni is fellowship-trained in Urologic Oncology. He has developed a busy practice in Urology and Urologic Oncology. Dr. Maroni is extremely qualified in a broad scope of urologic surgery and in the areas of prostate, bladder, and kidney cancer and performs laparoscopic ("minimally invasive") as well as open procedures. He trained at the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Medicine, completed his residency at the University of Colorado Denver School of Medicine and completed his fellowship at Indiana University. He is a member/investigator of the Southwest Oncology Group.
